The big game is approaching and even though we don’t know who’s going to get their shot in Arizona on February 12th, we can still get our plans together. Writing this post on hosting a Super Bowl party has been on my to-do list for a while because I love to throw an event or two.
I love the Super Bowl party season because the game is action packed, full of excitement and the food is always delish! This blog is here to put your Super Bowl party woes at ease, whether this is your first year hosting or you’re the go to girl every year. I’m thrilled to share my full guide to hosting a Super Bowl party for the ages!
GET YOUR GUEST LIST TOGETHER
Is this family time? A bash for your friends and their partners? or a combination of both? Nail down the “who” of your event, make a list and get a full guest count. My personal rule of thumb is to have room for an extra 5 people on top of your guest count because you never know who’s telling a friend of a friend to come on over!
FIGURE OUT THE DETAILS
Always have the time and place penciled in and ready to provide in your invitation, even if it’s a quick group text to your girls or family. Kickoff for the game is at 6:30pm EST, so I highly advise you to ask your guest to gather and get settled in about 45 minutes before.
Create zones
My boyfriend is a football fanatic and coach. He’s the type of man that needs a comfy seat, right where the action is. Me on the other hand– I like to socialize and chat with people. Unless the Cowboys are playing, then I’m glued to the screen and having several mini panic attacks! To avoid frustrated football fans and bored non-football loving guests, have zones!
Every Super Bowl party I’ve been to, I’ve noticed that people fall into groups. You’ve got talkers, snackers and watchers. To ensure that everyone has a great Super Bowl party experience no matter what bucket the fall in, if your space allows, try to create areas where likeminded party guests can flock together.
Creating zones that flow help your party not feel separated, but controlled in an organic way. My pro tip is to keep things like napkins, hand wipes, mini trash cans and coasters in each zone to help with traffic control (and keeping your home together).
As the hostess, you’re able to float from zone to zone, check on folks, and enjoy the event you put together!
Get your menu together
The best part of any Super Bowl party is the food, IMO. Decide if you want to control the menu or if you want to do it potluck style. Either way works, but if you opt for potluck style use a site like site genius to make sure three of your guests don’t all bring the same thing!
When hosting a Super Bowl party and planning the menu, think about a variety of tastes. Game day food is standard and probably expected by guests but don’t be afraid to put your own spin on it! If you and your crew are into Italian food, add Caprese skewers to the menu! Its important to have the staples though, so chicken wings, nachos and a slider bar all fare well with a crowd.
Build-your-own bars are ideal when hosting a Super Bowl party because your guests can tailor their tastes (and dietary restrictions) to their liking, and you can provide all the fixins’ stress free!
If you need Game Day menus and food labels, I have a download just for you! Edit them in photo shop or Canva with your details, put the menus in a frame and add the labels to holders. One less thing off of your list!
gather the details + Decor
This is when you lean on Target, Kroger and Publix pick up services to get you through stress free! Paper goods like plates, napkins and cups are always ideal to have on hand, plus serving trays and serving utensils for a frictionless self service experience.
You’re also going to need a drink dispenser or a cooler for drinks depending on how you want to serve them. Finally, get festive! A fun football banner and tablecloths should do the trick, and if you’re extra fancy, a marker for outside your home so folks know where the party is!
On your invite, let folks know where to park and what time the event starts. I doesn’t hurt to ask for an RSVP and sending a quick reminder via email or text a day or two before.
CHECK YOUR TECH
Now is a good time to make sure that your TV and entertainment system is good to go for the big game! Nothing is more awkward when you’re hosting a Super Bowl party and the TV doesn’t work or the remote batteries are dead.
If you have the time and extra funds, it’s also a good idea to get a sound bar to help create that stadium like experience in your home!
tAKE A DEEP BREATH
You’ve invited your guests, picked out the menu and handled all the details. Now its time to take a deep breath, put your hostess hat on and enjoy the party!
