The often duplicated, never replicated Hill House Nap Dress has been a staple in my closet for years at this point! Hill House has mastered the modern day house dress, beloved by our nanas, mamas and meemaws for generations, and honestly HH is bringing back the house dress in my humble opinion.
I started wearing my nap dress during Covid because, well we weren’t going anywhere and I sure as heck wasn’t wearing pants during that time in my life, but I still wanted to look put together and beautiful, even though we were inside 80% of the time.
Nellie Diamond, the founder is based in NYC but must have a Southern Belle Bestie somewhere because everywhere I turn in Georgia, someone’s got a Nap Dress on! I don’t blame them at all, they’re flowy, comfortable and are SO versatile to dress up, down or take an actual nap in (which I have).
Nap dresses in my humble opinion are a STAPLE in any Southern Girl’s wardrobe because they fit the weather down here in the summers, and can be layered in the late fall and winter season too. I love the feminine details, and pockets for practicality. Hill House has expanded their nap dress offerings and now include shorter dresses, dresses with sleeves and even collectors pieces, which one day I’ll get my hands on.

Nap Dress Sizing
HH nap dress sizing is pretty inclusive, I actually size down in their pieces and wear an XL in the classic Ellie. The length can be a little long, but I’m only 5 feet tall, so that’s more of a me problem. If you’re average height and curvy, you should be just fine length wise but I’d actually size down if you’re in between sizes for a nap dress.
I only own the classic Ellie, but when talking with some of my fellow bloggers who love HH as much as I do, the sizing is pretty standard. As always, I advise y’all to whip out your measuring tape, study the size guide and make sure you’re ordering the right size.
Styling a Nap Dress
Styling your nap dress is pretty simple. You can wear it on its own with sandals and shades for a perfect Saturday look or throw on a cardigan and wear it to Sunday service. You can even throw on platform or slingback heels with your nap dress, add a statement earring and wear it for date night! The options are truly endless, and that’s why I’m such a fan of mine.
I’ve worn my nap dress on vacation to Savannah in the middle of the humidity and heat, and it stood up to the weather so well. I wear my nap dress mostly with socks or barefoot to work from home in, but when I wear it out in public, I always get tons of compliments on the way it fits and flatters me!
Should You Buy One?
If you’ve made it to the end of this post, you’re probably thinking “Kait this is all great but is this really a must have piece?” and in my humble opinion– yes it is! My nap dress has held up so well with weekly wear, in my washing machine (I always air dry) and in multiple locations.
A nap dress is a piece I can see myself wearing as a mom one day and as a business owner because its comfortable and can be worn around others! Its a piece I reach for week after week and to be very honest with you, I’m already planning on purchasing my next two before the summer ends!
