Something about 2020 shifted my mindset. It was time to start my journey to wellness.
Honestly, I’ve struggled with my weight ever since grade school. Maybe even before. Every single doctor’s visit I was reminded about how I needed to drop 20lbs, 30lbs… one time it was 80lbs. I felt hopeless and like I couldn’t ever change my eating habits.
Health was such a prominent topic and my journey to wellness has always been tough. Wellness and the path to it was literally everywhere, but it felt so unattainable.
I finally had the time to sit down and examine why I liked to overeat and why I didn’t want to move my body. The revelation was clear (thanks quarantine), I didn’t think I deserved it. Rock bottom was realizing that I spent $200 that week on fast food delivery, and my body was showing it.
So what are we doing about it? Starting with baby steps to make sustainable change that I’ll actually keep.
Breaking down my journey to wellness
- Its going to take time. I didn’t gain all the weight in a year, I’m not going to lose it all in a year.
- Discipline is self love. Because I love myself, I’m going to take care of myself. Working out, nurushing my body, sleeping well. It all counts.
- Consistency. I really didn’t notice a real change in my body until week 12.
- As cheesy as it sounds, its a lifestyle change. My goal is to be healthy for life, not just for a season, not just for my 20s. I want to take care of myself well into my adult and elderly years.
- Make room for the things you love. The beauty of counting macros is that there are no off limits foods (there are some foods we just should have in moderation like fried foods, sweets and high caloric items), but I’ve learned how to make room for weekly chick fila and starbucks.
- A journey to wellness isn’t going to look the same everyday. My body needs different nutrition at different time. The key here is consistency.
My lifelong struggle is apart of my story and I’m not ashamed of it. I’m working on being the healthiest version of myself for myself and I’m so excited to usher in this new era with all of y’all. Here’s to our journey to wellness, together.
