Finding the perfect jeans for a curvy girl is the most painful thing—ever.
I’ve been on a jeans hiatus for the past 18 months thanks to the pandemic we’ve been in, but as the world begins to open I’ve been re-examining my relationship with jeans. I’ve come out of the pandemic determined to find the perfect jeans for a curvy girl like me!
For reference I’m 5’0 tall, have wider hips and larger thighs with a smaller waist so if you’re pear shaped category this post is 100% for you.
I wore jeans all throughout high school, then I started wearing them less in college. We can blame the GA heat, weight gain or the sorority uniform of an oversized-shirt-and-running-shorts combo. Because of that, jeans have slowly made their way to the back-burner of my wardrobe.
Recently, that’s stopped. I’ve re-discovered Abercrombie denim and I don’t see myself buying jeans anywhere else for a long time. The rejected chubby kid in me was terrified at first, but they’ve really made a push to be size inclusive yet simple with their denim. I’m a huge fan of their curve love selection– they’re the perfect jeans for a curvy woman!
Gen-Z says we can’t wear skinny jeans anymore but as a Zillennial (a person born between Millennials and Gen-Z– us 97-99 babies to be exact) I can do what I want. This is my current collection: black skinny jeans (linked here), ripped mom jeans (linked here) and a classic medium medium wash (linked here)
Let’s talk about the fit
- The fit on the black pair is stretchy and hugs my curves in such a supportive way. They’re TTS. I bought them in a short inseam.
- The fit on the ripped mom jeans is looser through the hips and thighs but still snugs the waist well. They’re on the looser side so I sized down. I bought these in a regular inseam.
- The fit on the classic mom jeans are tighter through the thighs but looser through the calf + leg. They’re TTS. I got these in a short inseam.
- Pro Tip: If you don’t have a tape measure at home I highly recommend getting one and measuring yourself then ordering!
- Remember: the number on the tag doesn’t matter, its all about how you feel and the fit.
I picked up 3 pairs and plan to add to my collection. The fit on the black pair is stretchy and hugs my curves in such a supportive way. The fit on the ripped mom jeans is looser through the hips and thighs but still snugs the waist well.
